baccarat

The object of Baccarat is to bet on which of two hands dealt by a dealer for banker and player will come closest to 9 or tie with two or sometimes three cards.

This game is also known as Mini Punto Banco.

Baccarat Rules

Card Values

Aces count as 1, picture cards and tens count 0, all other cards count their face value. If the sum of the cards is more than 10 or 20 then 10 or 20 is respectively deducted to give the hand's value between 0 and 9.

Betting

Bets are placed by gamblers in the banker, player or the tie box in front of where they are usually seated.

First Deal

The dealer places two cards face up to the banker and player box starting with the player hand. If either banker or player hand scores 8 or 9 then that is called a 'natural' and no more cards will be dealt to either hand.

Players Third Card Rule

  • Assuming neither hand got a 'natural'

  • If the players hand scores 6 or 7 then it does not take a third card.

  • If the players hand scores 0 to 5 then it draws a third card.

  • You don't need to memorise this the croupier should know what to do.

Bankers Third Card Rule

  • Assuming neither hand got a 'natural'

  • If the bankers hand scores 0 to 2 then it draws a third card.

  • If the bankers hand scores 3 then it draws a third card if the players third card was not an 8.

  • If the bankers hand scores 4 then it draws a third card if the players third card was not an Ace, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen or King

  • If the bankers hand scores 5 then it draws a third card if the players hand stands on 6 or 7 or if the players third card was an Ace, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen or King

  • If the bankers hand scores 6 then it draws a third card if the players third card was an Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen or King

  • If the bankers hand scores 7 then it always stands.

  • You don't need to memorise this the croupier should know what to do.

Payouts

  • Bets on a winning banker hand are paid 19-20 if the banker hand has a score closer to 9 than the player hand.

  • Bets on a winning player hand are paid evens if the player hand has a score closer to 9 than the banker hand.

  • Bets on a winning player hand are paid evens if the player hand has a score closer to 9 than the banker hand.

  • Bets on a winning player hand are paid evens if the player hand has a score closer to 9 than the banker hand.

Simple Baccarat Rules for Fundraising volunteer croupier

For fundraising events we strong recommend the following simplifications due to the difficulty of learning the rules quickly and we're sure it won't prevent your guests having just as much fun.

  1. Always draw a third card for banker and player unless either of the first 2 hands total 8 or 9.

  2. Always pay even odds to winners ignore the 19:20
